Plasticizers


Plasticizers are relatively non-volatile organic substances (mainly liquids). When incorporated into a plastic or elastomer, they help improve the polymer's: 
  • Flexibility 
  • Extensibility 
  • Processability 
Plasticizers increase the flow and thermoplasticity of a polymer by decreasing the viscosity of the polymer melt, the glass transition temperature (Tg), the melting temperature (Tm) and the elastic modulus of the finished product without altering the fundamental chemical character of the plasticized material. 
Diisononyl phthalate (DINP) 
Used in applications of Flooring, Cladding and Roofing, Cables and wires, Film and sheet, Automotive, Tubes & Hoses, Coated Fabrics, Inks and waxes. 
 
Diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) 
Used in applications of Flooring, Cladding and Roofing, Cables and wires, Film and sheet, Automotive, Tubes & Hoses, Coated Fabrics, Inks and waxes. 
 
Dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) 
Used in Flooring, Food packaging - Cling Wrap, Toys, Medical, Cables and wires Applications. 
 
Dioctyl Adipate (DOA) 
DOA is used in the manufacturing of clear films for food packaging, children’s toys, wire and cable. Additionally, it is compatible with nitrocellulose, ethylcellulose, most synthetic rubbers, and high-butyryl cellulose acetate butyrate. 
 
Trioctyl Trimellitate (TOTM) 
Used in Cables and wires, Film and sheet, Medical Applications. 
 
Epoxidised soybean oil (ESBO) 
ESBO is especially useful in PVC and its copolymers to keep plastics and rubber soft and pliable. Therefore, it is employed in various types of food packaging materials, medical products, all kinds of film, sheet, pipe, refrigerator seal, artificial leather, floor leather, plastic wallpaper, wire and cable and other daily-use plastic products.  
Other applications of ESBO in industrial applications includes lubricants, adhesives, inks, paints and coatings, fuels/biodiesel, solvents, and surfactants. ESBO is also used for packaging of ready-cooked baby food as it is non-toxic, bio-based, bio-degradable, and phthalate-free.
